God is revealed in creation through compassion, and this exquisite energy from God resonates deeply with us because we too share the quality of compassion in the very core of our nature.
Using Karen Armstrong’s “Charter for Compassion” and Hildegard of Bingen’s well-known writings and images of compassion, we are led to a deeper understanding of this exquisite energy. We will explore the compassion of Jesus in the gospels, and on writings by medieval mystics such as Meister Eckhart, as well as contemporary writers such as the Dalai Lama, Matthew Fox, and Judy Cannato. Reflection and dialogue together will shed new light on compassion enabling us to make compassion a “clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world” - and we will be changed.

Patricia Fresen, D.Th., is a well-known theologian and leads retreats inter-
nationally. Born in South Africa, she now lives in Germany. A woman of
