A foundations workshop for awareness in motion.

This is an experiential workshop exploring how to move through life more fully embodied while connecting with others. Utilizing the practice of mindfulness and somatic orientation, this class will provide the opportunity for one to deepen their confidence and skill in the art of contact improv. Through rooting deeply in oneself, any level of contact dancer will access greater ease and enjoyment in their dance.

What is Contact Improv? “CI” is a moving meditation where following points of physical contact provide the starting ground for exploration through movement with others. It’s also a genre of modern dance based upon spontaneous movement and the exchange of weight between dancers. Specific techniques will be offered to build skills in weight sharing, counter balance, rolling, falling, suspension and lifting.

Timothy and Lamara bring over 20 years of Contact improvisational experience. Lamara has been dancing all her life. As the founder of Santa Barbara Dance Tribe, Lamara is passionately involved with the ecstatic dance movement. She is a public speaker and group facilitator in the areas of conscious relationship and personal empowerment. Timothy is a somatic therapist, Hakomi trainer, and movement artist. Timothy integrates eastern, awareness practices and modern dance, producing a truly embodied experience from the inside out.
