Description:

What is Council Circle ? Why would I want to be part of one? And why at Yoga Soup? Council Circle is a cure for a fast and busy life. It’s like the yoga of conversation! Going to a Circle is like getting to tell your latest life story at an intimate campfire to a group of quiet, thoughtful friends. Circle starts with a chance to sit quietly and relax. A theme may be introduced. Then, one person at a time speaks while the others listen attentively, without interrupting, rehearsing, or cross talking. It is time to slow down, reflect and enjoy authentic, poignant, funny, insightful conversation that unfolds naturally and easily in a supportive environment.

At Yoga Soup we are privileged to practice next to some very interesting and conscious people. Yet most of our conversations with each other are short and a bit random and many of us feel like strangers even after years of sharing spiritual space. Council Circle has the ability to transform this into a true sense of belonging, contribution and connection for every yogi practicing here! Practiced over time, Council cultivates wisdom and self-expression, deepens friendships and helps us stay current with what is really happening in a group of people.
Circle supports individuals and groups in gracefully transitioning through milestones. It helps us to clarify decisions and awakens the courage to delve deeper and ask for more from life. Circle develops trust and feelings of well-being. Like yoga, sitting in Council is a practice and skill that can benefit all the areas of our lives.Catherine Cooley is a peace worker, spiritual seeker, community builder, and Earth caretaker.

Her peace work includes leading Council Circles and conflict resolution sessions. Her passion is to contribute to creating a peaceful, green Earth.
Catherine has practiced yoga for 27 years and has studied and applied many other transformational practices, including meditation, raw food diet, tantric yoga, Council Circle, Dr. Rosenberg’s compassionate communication, journaling, Satir style therapy, Landmark Education, contact improvisational dance, Byron Katie, A Course in Miracles, consensus building, Native American sweat ceremonies, plant medicine journeys, environmental activism, traveling and living abroad, 19 years of marriage and 17 years of parenting.
