Description:
Fr. Roy Bourgeois, internationally known as the founder of the School of the Americas (SOA) Watch to end U.S. government-funded combat training of Latin American militaries, will visit Santa Barbara on his national speaking tour to address his new cause within the Roman Catholic Church. A Catholic priest for more than 36 years, Fr. Roy will speak in support of women's ordination.
Fr. Bourgeois consders this issue a matter of justice: "Excluding women from priesthood is a grave injustice in our Church. I believe our Church's teaching on this issue is wrong and does not stand up to scrutiny. Sexism is a sin, and no matter how hard or how long we may try to justify discrimination, in the end, it is always immoral."
While the Vatican tries to extinguish the widespread call for women's equality in the church, Catholic women are answering the call of God and the Catholic community to inclusive, transparent, and accountable leadership.
This event is being sponsored by the Trinity Episcopal Church and the Church of the Beatitudes, a Roman Catholic Community, http://beatitudes-sb.org.
