Yin yoga is a quiet and meditative practice which compliments a yang practice. Primarily the poses are seated or reclined. Staying in the poses for long periods of time allows the connective tissues to stretch. Yin yoga lubricates the joints and effects the organs as well as having a profound effect on one's mind.
In this workshop Francesca will explain the significance as well as the benefits of a yin practice. We will stay in poses anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes. During this time, practictioners will observe what is going on inside, physically as well as mentally and emotionally. As the energy moves, blockages may be released. The end result is a calm mind and a feeling in the body similar to having had a massage.
Francesca has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and teaching since 1998. She began yoga initially learning Iyengar style. The past 10 years she has practiced Ashtanga yoga as she learned with Sri K Pattabi Jois. Francesca studied yin yoga with Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers. Yin yoga has become a very necessary part of Francesca's self practice and teaching. Meditation as well as pranayama are equally important in Francesca's practice as well as what she teaches.
