The Santa Barbara County Democratic Party announced the date of its annual fundraiser, recently renamed the 'Roosevelt-Hamer Dinner', which will be held on Saturday May 9th, 2009, at the Earl Warren Showgrounds. Party officers expect a larger than usual turnout for the event, due to increased participation and interest generated by the national presidential election of 2008. The annual dinner is the principle source of funding for grassroots activities by the Party, and over 400 activists and donors are expected to attend.

The dinner was renamed this year after Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the nations' 32nd President who presided over the new deal, and Fannie Lou Hamer, civil rights activist and pioneer integrating the Democratic Party. The dinner will serve as an awards ceremony for individuals and organizations who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to Democratic goals and values.

Honorees include the California Teachers' Association (CTA), activist Gina Fischer, St. Ynez Democratic Club President Cheryl Hermann, and Santa Barbara City Councilmember Das Williams. Tickets are $75 before April 24th, $85 after. Available at
