Out There

Benefit for the Santa Barbara Chapter of The Surfrider Foundation and Wayne Rich’s Medical Expense Fund

When: Wednesday, May 28, 2008, 8 p.m.

Where: Lobero Theatre, 33 E. Canon Perdido St., Santa Barbara

Cost: $12

Age limit: Not available

Categories: Film Screening

Description: A very special live auction will take place benefiting South Coast surfboard shaper Wayne Rich who was seriously injured at Rincon in December. Rich is facing $75,000 in medical bills and related expenses. The auction will include at least two surfboards, skateboards from OS3 and Ultimate Boarder, a tandem parachute jump from 10,500 feet courtesy of Skydive Santa Barbara, autographed items from singer Jack Johnson, as well as a special VIP “Bustin’ Down the Door“ Movie Premier Package in which the high bidder and a guest will get to walk down the red carpet and attend the U.S. Premier of the film during the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach on July 23, 2008.

Out There showcases today’s most progressive surfing, while considering humankind’s impact on the world’s oceans, beaches and waves. Proceeds from the premiere benefit SB Surfrider’s efforts to protect coastal environments, as well as the Gaviota Coast.
Through the experiences of surfers and the locals they meet throughout their travel, the film takes a thought-provoking look into the environmental destruction threatening known and unknown surf spots. Out There questions impending threats to Trestles in Southern California, pulp mill pollution in southern Chile and unrestricted development along Hawaii’s famed North Shore and in Tahiti.
