Description: A charming mouse explores the Santa Barbara Museum in a new children's book written by Montecito native Hilary Doubleday.
The book, which took approximately three years to produce, follows a mouse named Alec as he explores the permanent collection at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Doubleday's friend, Beth Rawlinson illustrated the publication, rendering Alec in whimsical watercolor. Through his adventure, Alec visits several prominent pieces of art in the Museum's permanent collection: Marc Chagall's Young Girl in Pursuit, Claude Monet's Waterloo Bridge, Rufino Tamayo's Noche y día, and Lansdowne Hermes' Roman sculpture of the 1st century. He also explores various professions and activities that take place within a museum, with the goal of increasing awareness and interest for children of all ages.

The idea for a children's book about the Santa Barbara Museum of Art arose several years ago during a smART Families meeting. smART Families is a group that assists in raising money to support art education programs at SBMA.
