Description: Sinkford is named as one of the “Most Influential Black Spiritual Leaders” by Beliefnet.com, and is the first African-American president of the UUA. His liberal religious views offer an alternative voice in today’s religious dialogue.
As president of the UUA, headquartered in Boston, Mass., Sinkford is a vocal advocate of marriage equality for the BGLT community and officiated at one of the first legal same-sex marriages in the country. He also passionately, eloquently opposes the war in Iraq, stands strong for environmental activism, speaks out against the genocide in Darfur, and is an advocate for the new sanctuary movement on immigration reform: “For our nation to be whole, we must acknowledge that our lives of privilege are supported in thousands of ways by people whose labor is invisible and whose suffering is hidden.”
