Now accepting applications for a new class of docents who are interested in participating in the September/October training program. This comprehensive docent training consists of sessions for eight-consecutive weeks. Dates will be discussed in meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator. Anyone with a love of teaching and learning is invited to participate. Museum docents receive comprehensive training to lead tours of the museum, which showcases the region's exciting maritime history from ancient seafaring Chumash to modern-day deep sea research. Training includes guided tours of the harbor as well as fieldtrips to local historic and educational institutions. Potential docents should have good verbal and communication skills. English is required; fluency in Spanish and other languages is sought after and welcome. Must be able to work with groups of all ages and will be asked to be available to lead museum tours at least once every two weeks for one year, and become a member of SBMM.
