God and War: Does Religion cause Violence?

Lecture presented by the S.B. Coaliton for Global Dialogue

When: Saturday, April 19, 2008, 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Where: Fe' Bland Theater, 721 Cliff Dr., SBCC West Campus, Santa Barbara

Cost: Free

Age limit: Not available

Categories: Citizen's Alert

Description: This panel discussion of distinguished experts and scholars will analyze whether religious differences are the root cause of a conflict, or a way of disguising competition for power or territory - or some combination of the two.
This analysis is important because understanding the relationship of religion and war is critical to formulating policies aimed at increasing understanding and abating violence.
Speakers include Mark Juergensmeyer, Imam Ibrahim Kazerooni, Dr. Nader Hashemi, Yoav ben Horin, and Mona Kanwal Sheikh. Moderated by Dr. Peter Haslund.
