Genealogy Society Meeting

Edward A. Harfeld will review his recently published book on Dwight Murphy

When: Saturday, April 19, 2008, 9:30 a.m. to noon

Where: First Presbyterian, 21 E. Constance Ave. , Santa Barbara

Cost: Free

Age limit: Not available

Categories: Meetings

Description: Seven years ago Mr. Hartfeld, a retired executive, began researching the life and works of his late father, John H Hartfeld. The senior Hartfeld was a Dutch immigrant who had a talent for managing the grounds of large estates. He eventually became superintendent of the S.B.’s Park Department. In the course of his research, Edward found himself immersed in uncovering and discovering the contributions of Dwight Murphy, who spearheaded the growth of the Park Department during Hartfeld’s father’s tenure. Edward knew he had to document Dwight Murphy’s story, although he had never written anything of this nature before.

Fortunately for us all, Edward Hartfeld persevered in his endeavor and not only wrote his book, California’s Knight on a Golden Horse; Dwight Murphy Santa Barbara’s Renaissance Man, but is now leading an effort to memorialize Dwight Murphy in the community. His presentation at this meeting of the genealogical society will include photos of historic Santa Barbara as well as informative tidbits on the writing of his book.
The regular business meeting will start at 10:30 A.M. then Mr. Harfeld will make his presentation.
The meeting is free and open to the public.
