Description: Dr. Jerry Pike of SBCC will lead a discussion of Mountains Beyond Mountains, by Tracy Kidder, the book that the Santa Barbara Public Library System is featuring for this Fall's Santa Barbara Reads program. It is the provocative and moving true story of an infectious disease specialist and Harvard Med graduate (also a MacArthur genius award recipient) who has devoted his life to bringing health care to the poor in Haiti and other desperate areas. This absorbing book has been required reading on many college campuses. Dr. Farmer will give a free public lecture at UCSB on Oct. 22 (call 893-3535 for details). Copies of the book in printed and audio formats are available from all branches.
